1. Ride No More Than Two-Abreast
For your own safety and out of courtesy to car traffic, please ride single file or no more than two abreast along the route.
2. Announce Hazards
When riding in groups, call out to alert fellow cyclists when hazards are present on the road (i.e., “hole,” “left turn,” “car back,” “rider up,” etc.)
3. Wear Layers
Our early morning start times mean that it could be chilly when you start your ride, but temperatures usually warm over the course of the day. You may discard unneeded clothing (i.e., jackets, arm warmers, etc.) at all rest stops and we’ll transport your gear to the finish line luggage tent for claiming after your ride.
4. Eat Before You’re Hungry & Drink Before You’re Thirsty
As a general rule of thumb, drink one water bottle and consume 100 calories for every hour of riding to ensure your muscles perform at their best.
5. Double Check Your Bike Transportation Tag
Printed on your bike tag are transportation instructions for our finish line bike valets to put your bike on the correct return shuttle or self pick-up racks. If the instructions on this tag are incorrect, your bike will be incorrectly transported. Make sure that before you hand your bike to a finish line valet, the tag has the correct information on it.
6. Get a Massage
After you cross the finish line, be sure to visit the massage tent and put your name on the waitlist. This is one event amenity not to be missed!
7. Save Room for the BBQ
Don’t get too stuffed at the finish line beach lunch. Remember to save room for the main course gourmet BBQ dinner service which opens at 4pm on Hearst Ranch.
8. Meet the Buddies
Over 40 Best Buddies program participants will be actively attending the event. Say hello and make some new friends!
9. Say Thanks
It takes a team of over 200 unpaid volunteers to pull off this event (bike mechanics, medics, course marshals, bike valets, etc) . Be sure to express your gratitude to our friendly volunteers along the course.
